Problems of foothill and hill countries regarding
integrated management of water resources, risk and landscape management
can be solved sustainably only in an interdisciplinary way. ILUP pursues
the basic concept of a holistic, network-oriented landscape assessment
from the problem solving approach to the implementation of measures.
Riverside scene Ybbs - NÖ, Abteilung Wasserbau
Objectives
- Harmonisation and integration of existing sectoral
methodologies: Implementation of an integrated river basin management
as a new efficient planning tool
- Preparation and implementing integrated strategies
for evaluating foothill and hill country, based on surface assessment
regarding natural hazards and use potentials
and the ensuring conflicts, as well as prevention support
(floods, mudflows, etc.) with transnational coordination (transferability
of valuation approaches)

Flooded
area. Wasserwirtschaftsamt Landshut
- Development of new methods for identifying future
risk scenarios and effects of foods (early detection and reactivity
to risks) with special consideration for the climate change
- Preparation of medium- and long-term concepts for land use
and landscape management (i.a. to minimise use conflicts) for
a sustainable development and transnational cooperation
- Increasing the acceptance among population for river
basin management through new market and communication mechanism by simultaneously
setting river-related impulses for regional development
Expected effects
- Integrated water management - coordinated management
system transferable to several countries and Good Practice guides
- Ccoordinated planning in the disciplines will
be integrated into the instruments of regional planning (regional development,
risk prevention)
- First implementation of interdisciplinary regional
assessment of natural hazard and use potential for these regions as
decision-making base for a sustainable land use
- Development of mutual proposals for guidelines
and comments on the implementation programmes for regional planning
Activities
Planning activities (transnational studies and
strategies, land use plans, etc.), networking, pilot actions, information,
training, awareness raising.
